If you are a women you are more likely to be poor than a man. To add insult to injury you’re also more likely to be doing most of the work.

Of the 1.3 billion people living in poverty globally, two-thirds are women. Gender inequality is often due to entrenched attitudes. Women have a limited say over what happens in their own lives – this means that they are more likely to live in poverty.

Around the world the majority of people who are denied an education are women – yet just one year of education can increase a girl’s future income by an incredible 10-20%.

Women need to have more of a voice – they currently only hold only 14% of the world’s parliamentary seats – yet they produce half the world’s food and earn only 10 % of the world’s income. It’s a sorry fact: women have pulled the short straw.

The Robin Hood Tax could raise billions every to tackle discrimination and injustice, and help to make sure women get the fair deal they deserve.
